What is an equalizer bar
Here’s what an equalizer bar does on a dozer:

In tracked tractors (bulldozers) the equalizer bar connects the two track frames and allows the bogie/tracks to move relative to the main frame, distributing weight and providing some suspension / articulation.
It’s typically a large forged steel bar ("traverse") mounted across the machine’s undercarriage.
Its function: maintain track frame alignment, share load between left & right tracks, absorb uneven terrain impact.
Because it is subject to heavy loads and wear, replacement or custom manufacture is often necessary.
What to consider when replacing or buying
If you are buying a new equalizer bar (or replacement) for your dozer, pay attention to:
Fit / model compatibility: The part number must match the make/model of your dozer. One supplier lists many part numbers for various models (e.g., for Caterpillar models) in a blog.
Material & forging quality: Because of the loads involved, high-quality forged steel is key. For example, the manufacturer Canton Drop Forge states they produce custom forged e-bars for tracked machines.
Condition if used: Cracks, fatigue or deformation in the equalizer bar are serious issues. A video shows replacement of a cracked end on a dozer equalizer bar.
Mounting hardware / bushings: The ends often pivot, so bushings, pins and mounting fit matter for proper performance and long service life.
Cost vs downtime: Because failure of this bar can lead to major undercarriage problems (misalignment, extra wear), it’s often worth investing in a correct, high-quality unit.
